A Reading from
Chapter one the start.
The light grey
moss clinging to the deformed branches of the old Oak, shifted
to one side as the gentle southern breeze passed. It had found
its way across Mobile bay, over the freshly mowed lawn and
finally sifted through the bushes in front of a small white wood
framed house. With every gust it caressed the tiny flowers
capturing its essences, guiding the sent of honeysuckles through
Auburn’s partially opened window. With the morning Sun warming
her petit 17 year old body beneath her Grandmother’s patchwork
quilt and the aroma of the sweet blooms luring her from a deep
sleep, Auburn stretched, pushing her crimson toenails out from
the bottom of the covers. As she slowly opened her eyes, she
pulled one hand free, pushing away her shoulder length blond hair
from her face. She smacked her dry lips and swallow hard. She
could still taste the popcorn she had devoured the night before
while watching “A walk to remember” on DVD. As She lie there
half asleep, she couldn’t help comparing her complicated life to
the young girl in the Movie. Like the character, “Jamie
Sullivan” she also found herself a bit charismatic and strange
to her piers. Auburn had been brought up by her father, and
like Jamie, the grief that once filled their hearts had faded
into a distant memory after loosing her mother in a car crash.

After the long
hard ride Auburn and her captures approached a large gray
Castle. The towering structure seemed to grow out of a lopsided
hill with huge boulders and dead trees poking out of the mud
that gave Auburn a sense of dread. She sat tied to the beast
with her swollen eyes fixed on the molt that surrounded the
castle. It was filled with a florescent red bobbling liquid
that contained floating corps of dead animals and skeletons of
human type beings. As her heart raced Auburn twisted her wrist
and hands trying to free herself from the leather ropes that
bond her. She stopped momentarily as one of the creatures
looked in her direction. Her eyes darted towards the other
creature as he reached in his belt and retrieved a device that
he put to his large protruding lips. Taking a deep breath he
blew, creating a base sound that vibrated through Auburn’s
tortured body. Bong………………. The thunderous tone sent chills
rippling down her back. After a brief moment, a humongous door,
hinged at the bottom, swung down and hit the ground pushing a
cloud of dust in front of them. Auburn choked as the creatures
started over the bridge with her in tow. When they entered
Auburn’s eyes watered as a stench of death consumed her senses.
The smell was like the rotting flesh of dead Animals after
hurricane Katrina. She tried to hold her breath but soon found
herself getting light headed so she gave in to the awful aroma.
Fear
overwhelmed her, she scanned all
around as she entered the wide gate into maze of high walls with
hundreds of windows with creatures hanging out looking in
Auburns direction. She felt as if she were naked. Drool
splashed down on her hair and shoulders and slithered down her
back. The ordeal was more than Auburn could take so she finally
let go, leaned forward on the beast, bowing her head and started
sobbing. She closed her eyes but the grunting tones of her
captures and the slobber now streaming all over her
body tortured her to the point of losing conciseness.

On the way back to the
food kitchen Auburn rounded a corner and heard the most
terrific sound that she had every heard. The echo came
from behind a red door marked with a symbol that Auburn
didn’t understand. She crept closer and put her ear to
the wood and listened as the sound subsiding. Just as
Auburn was about the leave, a gurgling noise echoed from
the other side of the door. With Curiosity finally
getting the best of her, she reached for the handle and
entered. Once inside a large room with beds lining both
sides of a long hall, Auburn caught sight of a Beast
lying on one of the beds choking and trying to reach a
glass of liquid on a nearby table. He looked very pale
for a beast with bloodshot eyes. He tried again to
reached for the liquid but this time he almost fell out
of the bed on to the harden floor. His head and one arm
dangled as he tried to pull himself up. The more he
tried the more he choked.
Auburn could not handle her feelings any longer, so with
the compassion of a Florence Nightingale she rushed over
to the beast and gently helped him. As she lifted
his head she guided the pillow under him, she
could feel the heat of his sick body. As he choked
once again he opened his eyes and watch Auburn retrieve
the glass of liquid and quickly returned to the beast.
She gently lifted his head and put the goblet to his
lips. Very little of the pink fluid actually went
into the beast mouth. Most ran down the side of
his face. Auburn reached for a towel hanging on a
pole next to the bed and patted the side
of the creature’s cheeks. The creature stopped coughing
and watched contently as Auburn tented to him. His body
relaxed, sensing that the female Being wasn’t there to
harm him. He gathered up enough strength and reached up
and touched Auburn’s hand. Startled at first, Auburn
reeled back, then looked into the eyes of the beast and
realized, that he knew that she was his caretaker at
that moment. Auburn looked around and saw what looked
like water bucket. She reached down and put the towel
in the cool liquid and came back to the beast. Caringly
she laid the wet cloth on the beast’s forehead, then
reached down and held his hand. As she touched him, a
sick caring smile parted his cracked lips and in a low
whisper he bellowed, “Thank you.” Auburn looked the
beast in the eyes and smiled and patted him on the
cheek. With his large protruding eyes, bushy brows,
large lips and harden face. Auburn was surprised to feel
a soft texture to his skin. was all
